During this call the dredger Sagar Hansa was accommodated in drydock No. 01 (30,000 DWT) drydock, the main jobs carried out during call comprised of routine drydocking related jobs along with specialised work:
• Installation of new drag head gantry winch gear boxes.
• Machining of both winch drums in work shop to house the new shafts.
• Steel renewal of over 10 tons at various locations.
• Renewal of propeller shaft seals.(On both shafts).
• Fabrication of large diameter discharge pipes (Diameter 900 mm x 10 meters).
• Renewal of bottom door seals.
• Overhauling of sluice valves (19 Nos)
• Overhauling of both gantries including the sliding pieces.
The project team was headed by Mr.D.U Manatunga – Ship Manager, deck side team was headed by Mr. Morris and Mr. Jayasena, the engine side was headed by Mr. Upali. The repairs were carried out to meet classification society Indian Register of Shipping stringent requirements. Senior Technical superintendent (Plant Maintenance) Mr. Huig Haasnoot and Superintendent Mr. Saurabh Saravia looked after the Van Oord interests during the lay-up repair call and were fully satisfied with the yard performance when the dredger was re-delivered on schedule, even after considerable extra work was accommodated within the quoted period.
Colombo has gained an excellent reputation amongst the dredger owners as a full service facility that can handle the wide range of repairs on sophisticated dredgers. Located very strategically close to many dredging hot spots with the expertise and facilities at hand, Colombo is the preferred choice.
Colombo Dockyard has been offering services to many international dredger owners in the recent past such as Dredging International-Belgium, Dredging Corporation of India, Mercator Lines, India and Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V.
Currently two other dredgers are undergoing repairs in the yard Dredger Darshani Prem owned by Mercator Line, India and Water Injection Dredger Parakeet owned by Dredging International, Belgium.
The recent positive political developments in the island has resulted in opening up the North and the East and many a scenic pristine locations for tourists keen on wild life, surfing or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the Island, while the business traveller has the choice of challenging Golf courses located within the city or in the scenic Hills.
