OVG Projectontwikkeling and Van Oord today started building work on a new head office of around 14,000 m2 for Van Oord in Rotterdam. The office for dredger and marine contractor Van Oord is on the banks of the River Maas. This time Van Oord did not do any dredging, but rather CEO Pieter van Oord symbolically laid the foundation stone together with Mayor Aboutaleb.
OVG is developing the new Van Oord office on the Schaardijk: the interchange for one of the most vital (water) ways of The Netherlands. To the north the high-profile location borders on the Nieuwe Maas, a stone’s throw from the Van Brienenoord Bridge, which is crossed daily by about 250,000 cars. The distinctive design has a nautical theme, which fits in well with both Van Oord and the location. The roofs will be covered with moss sedum that, due to its energy efficiency, will contribute to the sustainable character of the building. The office is expected to be completed in March 2012.
OVG Projectontwikkeling and De Jong Gortemaker Algra Architecten have succeeded in designing offices that fit in extremely well with the ambiance of the surroundings and in which the character of Van Oord as dredger and marine contractor is interpreted perfectly.

The arrival of Van Oord in the Nieuwe Maas office park heralds the start of phase 1 of this campus project. The second phase comprises an office development of around 12,000 m².
