On 27 June last, at the age of 88, Mr Jan van Oord passed away. In 1948 Mr Jan van Oord was one of the founders of the company Jac.G. van Oord and Sons, predecessor of Van Oord nv. He was managing director of the company until 1984 and from 1984 until 1994 he was a member of the Supervisory Board.
After ending his career Mr Jan van Oord was very much involved, in the background, with the fortunes of the company and its employees. Until recently he was present during all memorable events, like the christening and launch of the new cutter suction dredger Athena in February last.
Out of respect for Mr Van Oord all flags at our offices and on board our ships will be flown at half-mast on this Friday 1 July. We would like to express our gratitude for everything Mr Van Oord has done for our company.
