Sri PV Ramana Murthy acting Chairman and Managing Director of the corporation unfold the National Flag and delivered the independence day message to the employees of DCI and their families. DCI was established as a premier dredging company in 1976 under the Ministry of Shipping and is the only public sector undertaking in dredging industry. Of late, some private dredging companies including foreign dredging companies entered into the dredging field and carrying their business in India.
This creates a stiff competition to DCI. In addition, exodus of experts is continuing from DCI to other private dredging companies, which lure them with higher status and attractive CtC. CMD hope to improve the revenue with the addition of three more new vessels expected. The need of the hour of DCI is that every one shall raise to the occasion and be pro-active in their sphere of work. CMD expressed that all employees should think high about DCI to take the Company unitedly to the realm of Excellence.
On the ongoing contracts CMD stated that DCI had entered into a revised contract with KoPT for carrying out maintenance dredging at Haldia on daily hire basis. At present 6 TSHDs and one CSD are committed for dredging at Haldia. To meet the clients’ requirement, DCI ought to maintain the dredgers in good health by planned and professional approach. Necessary support services shall be extended to the project and dredgers promptly and effectively.
DCI took delivery of the new CSD from Mazagaon Dock and commenced dredging at Visakhapatnam port rock dredging. The CSD along with DCI DR IX are working at VPT on daily hire basis.
DCI completed substantial portion of capital dredging at Paradip port and handed over the Outer and inner channels to the port. DCI commenced capital dredging work for Ennore Port during February 2011. At present the work with TSHD is continuing and CSD Aquarius is to be deployed at the earliest for carrying out the balance work.
DCI secured three year maintenance dredging contract from Kochin Port trust. DCI commenced maintenance dredging at Kochi recently. Two TSHDs are continuously required to be deployed for the next three years till end March 2014. Dredging at Sothern Naval Command, Kochi for the last year has been completed successfully.
Maintenance dredging at Goa for the last two years has since been completed and capital dredging work is in progress. Maintenance dredging work for the current year at barge berths is already commenced and dredging at other areas by deploying TSHD is likely to commence shortly. Maintenance dredging at NMPT for the last two years has been completed successfully.
CMD also informed that the long pending Non-executives wage revision was settled and also implemented the hike in their wages and other allowances. Similarly, revised Promotion policy for both executives and non-executives was also formulated with the approval of the Board of Directors and implemented from July, 2010.
CMD confident that with the cooperation of all employees, it is possible to achieve corporate policy and become a globally competitive company. CMD wished all the best to the employees and their families and request them to continue to show their best performance.
