After taking part in Charlevoix tourist train’s inaugural trip, Pauline Marois, member of Parliament for Charlevoix and leader of the Parti Québécois and of the Official opposition, paid a visit to Ocean Industries’ shipyard in Isle-aux-Coudres. This visit allowed her to take note of the company’s needs, which is lacking in specialized labour.
Let’s remember that Ocean Industries were awarded a 25M$ contract, which translates into the construction of a state-of-the-art 70-metre dredge.
“It was important for me to see how the 25M$ construction was unfolding and to be made aware of their needs, she said during the interview. I met people from the Charlevoix School Board with the Minister of Education in order to keep the welding and fitting course. I was impressed by the quality of the personnel and the work team. I was happy to meet the employees. They control their costs. I also wanted to see how the building of the dredge was coming along.”
Jacques Tanguay , First Vice President and General Manager of Ocean, was very pleased to greet Ms Marois. “ It is important that the political class be aware of what goes on in the region. Because of this visit, the member of Charlevoix will be able to understand what it is that we do and the challenges facing us in the future, declared Mr Tanguay, who is also a shareholder of Ocean. We are growing and need 25 to 30 employees tomorrow morning. We want to attract young people and keep them working in the region.”
