Aberdeen Harbour Board has been recognised for its major contribution to the North-east economy as it received the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Northern Star Business Awards.
The accolade was presented to Aberdeen Harbour Board chairman, Chris Lloyd and chief executive Colin Parker, by television and radio personality Gaby Roslin, at the ceremony organised by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
Aberdeen Harbour was recognised as the UK’s oldest business and honoured for its contribution to the local economy, helping to support 11,000 full time jobs and generating in excess of £420 million annually. In order to maintain its position as a world-class port, the Board has invested more than £200 million in infrastructure and development projects, with an ongoing £65 million programme of works upgrading areas such as Torry and Commercial Quays.
On receiving the award, Aberdeen Harbour Board chief executive, Colin Parker said: “ I am honoured to receive the award on behalf of Aberdeen Harbour and would like to express my appreciation for the ongoing support of our many customers, our Board members and all our staff who work so hard to keep the port operational throughout the year .”
Chairman Chris Lloyd added: “ We may be the UK’s oldest business but we must look to the future and be ready for the opportunities and challenges it presents. By doing this we will grow our business and more importantly continue to support the local economy and the wider North-east region. ”
