On Saturday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy visited the Thames Shipyard and Cross Sound Ferry in New London to view the progress of construction on the site’s capital improvement project and speak with its management team and staff.
The project, which received a $2 million in state bond grant in August that triggered a $1.5 million federal grant from the U.S. Maritime Administration, includes the expansion of a drydock and the dredging of the channel to allow larger draft ships to access the yard, both of which will ultimately increase the capabilities and workload the shipyard can take on and positioning it for increased future work.
On Saturday afternoon, Governor Malloy visited Lumachip, Inc. in Waterford for an opportunity to tour the company and speak with its executives and staff. Based in Waterford, Lumachip is an emerging growth, technology-based startup that creates and develops patented and proprietary low cost manufacturing technologies related to inorganic light emitting diodes.
Governor Malloy discusses with the company what he is hoping to accomplish in a bipartisan manner during the upcoming Jobs Special Session next week.
