Westecunk Creek dredging permit was issued by the state Department of Environmental Protection. This permit will include a dredge spoils deposit site that adjacent homeowners have been fighting.
“ There are seven people on Dock Road that the DEP doesn’t care about, ” said Dave Fox , alluding to seven families, whose homes will be disturbed by the odor of dredged materials.
State Department of Transportation and DEP have called the location a regional dredge spoils deposit site.
Lawrence Hajna , spokesman for the DEP, said when the channel is dredged, it will be navigable at 7 feet deep at average low water.
DEP spokesman added the cost of the Westecunk Creek dredging project and the start date are not avalable because the project requires approval from the Army Corps of Engineers, which will determine the cost and put the project out to bid.
A total of 138,832 cubic yards will be dredged.
