Dredging at the Port of Townsville started this week.
A five-week regular maintenance work will cost around $3 million.
It is expected that around 300,000m³ of natural infill material will be gathered from the channels and moved to an already authorized sea disposal site.
The dredging activities will be undertaken by the trailing suction dredge vessel Brisbane.
“ Dredging is one of the more important aspects of our operations as it ensures sufficient water for ships to operate and maximises the amount of cargo a ship can carry into or out of the Port . It is essential that the Authority dredges to maintain safe navigation depths and ensure efficiencies for our customers ” said Matthew O’Halloran, General Manager Operation s.
