Narrowing of the Krukut River caused Jakarta Provincial Government to build a reservoir in Pondok Labu, Cilandak, South Jakarta in order to minimize the flood. Grass and trees freed by Jakarta Park and Cemetery Department for the reservoir location, are being removed.
“After cleaning, we will continue with dredging the land of 9,007 square meters. We need about Rp 1 billion for this initial phase of dredging process. The dredging itself will be applied with 3 meters depth, ” stated Head Section of Water Resource Planning and Maintenance for Jakarta Public Works Department, Rudi Chaeruddin .
It is anticipated that the reservoir will cover 14 thousand square meters, while the remaining parts are to undergo the land acquisition process.
“ About 5,000 square meters will be freed in RT 09, 10, 11, and RW 03. So, a levee of 2-3 meters tall could be built in Krukut riverbank, ” he explained.
The reservoir, surrounded by the inspection road with small parks, will also serve as a public tourism attraction.
