A permit to dredge a channel near Catfish Bay was issued to the Lake Havasu Marine Association last week. A half-mile long channel is located three miles north of Windsor. It will stretch 50-feet wide and its present average depth of about two feet will be deepened to 4-feet.
The deadline for completing the project is December 31.
Association Executive Director Jim Salscheider said that the project is planned to commence on Tuesday. The Association fundraised for the dredging project that will remove built-up dirt and silt.
Dick Gilbert, the project leader at the Lake Havasu National Wildlife Refuge Complex, explained that no dredging activities have ever been undertaken within this area. He further added that the water flows down the Colorado River bringing dirt and silt. The river then reaches the lake with slower water flows
The Chemehuevi Tribe was the Association’s “partner” in the project said Salscheider.
The project leaders stated that the result of dredging will be the 60 miles of clear waterways between Davis and Parker Dams.
