The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public input on Lorain Harbor dredging project.
The Corps will oversee dredging to maintain the harbor and the Black River shipping channel, which run about 27 feet deep.
The channel maintains that depth to the turning basin behind the Lorain steel mills, according to the navigational chart supplied by the Corps.
The plan would remove 130,000 cubic yards of sediment from the channel up to river mile 2.25, which is halfway between the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge and the turning basin.
The material would be disposed of in a 1.5-square-mile area that sits out in the lake 3.5 miles north of the Lorain Lighthouse.
The Corps will accept public comments on the project until Dec. 30.
