The beach renourishment project which began on Panama City Beach’s west end has moved east. The three month long project has migrated to its final staging area in the east end on near the Regency Towers on Thomas Drive.

The US Army Corps of Engineers pumped sand onto the beach. The project will extend the beachfront to protect it from erosion. The end goal is to extend the shoreline by 100 feet to better protect the sand dunes and buildings from erosion.

With the New Years fast approaching, construction crews only have a few days left to wrap up the beach renourishment project, before the dredging ship currently used for the project, sails back north.

The project deadline is December 31st but that could change if weather forces a delay. For people who traded the white snow for white sand, they seem to be taking the dredging project in stride.

“Been watching it go back and forth last few days decided to walk down to see what it looks like on this end ” said Gary Sinner of Golden, Colorado.

“It’s very interesting, we’re enjoying barefoot Christmas for a change on white snow called sand, but I had no idea how it was done”

This is the third Beach Renourishment project to be done in recent years along the beach. The other two were in 1998 and 2005.
