Her Majesty Queen Beatrix Wilhemina Armgard of the Netherlands accompanied by HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, visited yesterday (January 9), the flagship Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, as part of her state visit to the UAE.

They discussed the expanding investment and trade relations binding the UAE and the Netherlands, where DP World is developing a new container terminal at Maasvlakte 2 at the Port of Rotterdam in partnership with four shipping lines and the Port of Rotterdam.

The royal delegation included HRH the Heir Apparent, Willem-Alexander, Prince of Orange, HRH Princess Maxima, HE Gerard Michels, the Dutch Ambassador to the UAE accompanied by HE Reem Al Hashimi, UAE Minister of State.

The delegation was received by Mr. Bin Sulayem and HE Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO, Port & Free Zone World, and Vice Chairman, DP World, Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer, DP World, Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region and other DP World officials.

The Queen inspected the flagship port’s state of the art facilities and was briefed on the gate automation and other initiatives taken by DP World to constantly improve operational efficiencies.

HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World , said: “ DP World is privileged and honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Beatrix Wilhemina Armgard and members of the royal delegation to Jebel Ali Port. The UAE and the Netherlands have enjoyed enduring two-way trade flow for decades and we believe that DP World’s partnership with the Port of Rotterdam in the Maasvlakte 2 project will further enhance these bilateral relations.”

Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer, DP World , said: “ The Maasvlakte 2 development will bring the very best in marine terminal operations to the community in Rotterdam Port. We believe that our global experience and expertise will contribute significantly to the benefit of all stakeholders in the project. DP World looks forward to working with its consortium partners to make this a successful addition to the Port of Rotterdam.”

Under a concession signed in 2007, the consortium consisting of DP World, Mitsui OSK Lines, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Neptune Orient Lines and CMA CGM will equip and operate the first terminal in the Maasvalakte 2 development at the Port of Rotterdam.

The DP World terminal will have a 1900-metre long deep sea quay with a depth of 20 metres, capable of handling next-generation mega container vessels. In addition, it will have a 550-metre quay for inland shipping and feeder vessels.
