The St. Augustine Beach renourishment project is scheduled to start in March.

“ This project is part of a 50-year plan to rebuild the St. Augustine inlet ruined shoreline ,” stated Andrew Ames , St. Johns County Public Works Department assistant engineer.

“ The St. Augustine Beach renourishment project is to last six months and would likely cause minimal disruption for beachgoers ,” he added.

S. Gary Snodgrass , City of St. Augustine Beach Mayor said that studies show that investing in beaches increases tourism spending, increases sales, income and employment and provides habitat for animals and vegetation.

Also, these are outcomes we seek from the renourishment project over time, Snodgrass added.

The St. Johns County is the sponsor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers beach fill project, which will cost about $16.2 million.
