The city’s seaport will be further expanded this year, depending on the availability of funds from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) central office (Manila).
PPA Port Manager Leonilo Miole hopes that funds will be readily available this 2012 for PPA-Zamboanga to start “working” on its proposal for a 3rd phase port expansion project.
Miole said the proposed further expansion of the Zamboanga City seaport which will cover 150 linear meters will cost the government some P200 million.
The port manager explained that further expansion of the port is necessary to meet the international standards and to attract private investors to the port and to better serve the public.
It can be recalled, the 1st phase of the port expansion was done in 2005 covering 131.5 linear meters with project cost of P300 million. 2nd phase was implemented in 2007, covering 149 linear meters with P400 million total project cost.
