Delaware lawmakers announced last week that nearly $1.9 million had been secured for the Nanticoke River dredging.

However, some Seaford area residents say they are concerned about environmental repercussions which this project could cause.

“ It’s pristine, I don’t want to see it spoiled, ” Bunnie Williams , a local citizen said.

“I’m very concerned about the aquifer. What is going to happen if all of [the spoils] leach down through the soil? ” he added.

Sussex County officials scheduled the Nanticoke River dredging project for this fall.
