The Hillsboro Beach ad hoc committee is hosting a symposium on beach renourishment issues at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Opal Towers East, 1149 Hillsboro Mile.

“ You’ve got to get the people to understand what’s going on, ” said Rene Males , one of the meeting organizers. “ Every time we’ve gone through renourishment it’s been a big fight.”

The results of a beach renourishment study, being performed by Coastal Systems International, will be revealed at the March 6 commission meeting.

“ Educating the public is never a bad thing, ” Vice Mayor Claire Schubert concluded.

The Town of Hillsboro Beach, in cooperation with the City of Deerfield Beach, renourished their beaches in Broward County, Florida in 2011.

The HillsboroDeerfield Beach Renourishment Project 2011 involved placing approximately 340,000 cubic yards of beach compatible sand onto the beach along the southern 500 feet of the City of Deerfield Beach and the northern 5,750 feet of the Town of Hillsboro Beach.

As part of this project, native dune vegetation was planted along 1,400 linear feet of dunes in Deerfield Beach.
