Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. announced Monday that the Port Monmouth Storm Damage Reduction and the Green Brook Flood Control projects will each receive $1 million as part of the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 budget. The funding is included in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works budget.

Pallone secured $2.9 million in FY 2012 which will enable the Army Corps of Engineers to complete beach replenishment in Port Monmouth that will begin in Fall 2012. The additional $1 million secured in the FY 2013 budget will go towards the larger flood control project, which includes 7,070 feet of levees, 3,585 feet of floodwalls and 2,640 feet of dunes.

The Green Brook Sub Basin project will also receive $1 million. A portion of these funds will be set aside for a flood mitigation project in the boroughs of Dunellen and Middlesex in the sixth congressional district.

“ These projects are critical to protecting residential and commercial structures from destructive storms and floods and I am pleased the Administration reflected this in the budget,” said Pallone. “They will create high-quality jobs while also ensuring our communities are secure.”

In FY 2012 Pallone secured $495,000 towards dredging in the Shark River Inlet that will take place this year. The proposed FY 2013 budget allocates $400,000 towards another round of critical maintenance dredging at the inlet that will take place the following year.

In addition to these projects, several other communities in the sixth district will receive funding for projects from the President’s proposed FY 2013 budget. The Hudson Raritan Estuary will receive $400,000 for ecosystem restoration, Highlands will receive $100,000 towards costal storm damage reduction and the Raritan River area will be allotted $280,000 towards future dredging projects.
