Dredging works undertaken at Lyme Regis harbor resulted in 3,000 tons of removed sand.
This project worth £25,000 comprised deepening the area known as the Pool and removing silt building up by the North Wall over a four-day period.
Harbourmaster Grahame Forshaw and deputy Mike Higgs stressed the importance of this regular cleaning in order to secure safe passage to and from the harbor and keep it user-friendly.
This is a regular activity performed every year for the purpose of ensuring full functioning of the harbor and safe protected beaches. This year, operations have also been extended thus have included making the sea bed deeper, digging out the area by the North Wall the A and B rows, replenishing the sandbar where sand is slipping down into the harbor.
