Dredging process of the Oconto River is moving ahead and it might be completed in 2013.
Five years have passed since the river was last dredged. Back then the project cost $1.5 million and the state provided 80% of the expenses. The dredging is needed again since shoaling and sandbars at the mouth of river are causing difficulties to boats and cruisers.
Last week, the City Council authorized an agreement with a Green Bay engineering firm, Foth, to make a grant application that will be submitted to the Harbor Assistance Program managed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Mayor Tom Fulton is expecting a favorable response.
