A contractor for the final stage of the Mordialloc Creek dredging project will be approved by Kingston Council next week.

The first stage of the dredging was completed last year at a cost of $1.5 million. The second stage, with the estimated cost of about $5.5 million, will remove mud and silt from the creek mouth to the Governor Rd boat ramp and it should start in April.

Kingston mayor John Ronke has stated: “ The project has a strong environmental focus and will involve removing contaminated material, which will leave a healthier creek.”

“However, the principal aim of the dredging is to remove sediment that has accumulated over time so that the creek is usable for boating ,” he added.

Both project stages have been funded by the State Government, the council and Melbourne Water.
