On the 20 February the Cutter Suction Dredge (CSD) Al Mahaar ceased dredging when it experienced failure of the ladder winch.

The winch is essential to the dredge as it lowers the cutter head into the water.

The winch has been removed by crane from the dredge and is currently undergoing major repairs.

The CSD is expected to be operational later in March.

At present there are two backhoe dredges operating on the project, the Big Boss and Razende Bol.

The grab dredge Tarvos was demobilised from the project earlier this month upon completion of grab dredge work and a third backhoe dredge Simson is in the process of being demobilised.

Boat users in the Western Basin are reminded to respect the 50m exclusion zone from all dredges and related plant, including the sinkerlines.
