Dredging works undertaken in the Royal Harbor were interrupted when a backhoe went into the canal.

The workers stated that they were dredging in the canal behind a home in the 1500 block of Blue Fin Court when the backhoe, placed on a dredging barge, fell off and slipped into the water.

A crane was used for lifting the backhoe out of the water and no injuries were reported.

However, the backhoe leaked oil and gas into the canal.

Luckily, the workers managed to contain the spill since the accident occurred at a dead end canal.
