The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released a draft environmental assessment on the proposed modifications to the existing levee system at Oslo, Minn., March 1.
The City of Oslo proposed to modify the existing levee system that was constructed by the Corps of Engineers in the 1970s. Modifications include raising the existing levees by 1.1 to 1.7 feet, realigning portions of the levee, structure relocations, replacing a portion of the levee with a floodwall, modifying closure structures and relocating or upgrading gatewells.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, serves the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. It contributes around $175 million to the five-state district economy.
