The first-ever “Panama Canal 2012 International Engineering and Infrastructure Congress,” to be held April 18-20 in Panama City, will bring together technical experts and infrastructure leaders to share best practices for project delivery, risk management, and financing.
CH2M HILL Chairman and CEO Lee McIntire will be one of the keynote speakers, as will ACP Administrator Alberto Aleman Zubieta and Steve Stockton from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering .
“ The expansion of the Panama Canal is one of the world’s iconic infrastructure projects, and one that will greatly benefit global commerce, ” says McIntire. “ This makes Panama the perfect setting for the world’s engineering thought-leaders to gather and discuss best technical and management practices for projects that are crucial for communities around the world.”
McIntire will discuss the essential problem-solving role of engineers and highlight the company’s approach to program management on some of the world’s largest infrastructure projects. From the London 2012 Olympic venues and infrastructure to Mumbai, India’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and the Panama Canal expansion, CH2M HILL is helping project owners and communities around the world meet their most challenging goals.
During the International Engineering and Infrastructure Congress, other design and project management experiences will be shared such as the hydroelectric project of Tocoma in Venezuela, the failure of New Orleans levees during Hurricane Katrina, the main dredging projects in the world; and foundations for the tallest buildings in the world. Focusing on sharing best practices, Congress participants will have opportunities to participate in panel discussions on lessons learned from the development of large infrastructure projects and contributions from the Canal expansion to the engineering profession.
