A multimillion-dollar beach replenishment project in the Brant Beach is slated to begin on Saturday, reports Press of Atlantic City.
Stephen Rochette, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has stated that the contractors, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co., of Oak Brook, Ill., will start pumping sand from off the coast of Long Beach Island on Saturday. The project activities will commence at the beaches around 31st Street and move south. The beach will be replenished to 57th Street, he added.
It is expected that 1.2 million cubic yards of material will be placed onto the beach at a cost of $16.7 million. There might be additional undertakings that could include adding another 175,000 cubic yards of sand.
The Army Corps secured last year $7.6 million in federal funding for the project while the remaining cost will be provided by the state and township.
According to Rochette the undertaking should be completed by June 15, however the replenishment could be completed sooner depending on weather and technical conditions.
