Djibouti Port Unveils Doraleh Container Terminal Expansion Plans

The Port of Djibouti is planning to invite bids for the expansion of the Doraleh Container Terminal, partly-owned by DP World.

The prospect of a US$300 million development project scheduled to be completed in 2015 is to double the terminal’s annual capacity to around 3 million TEU, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, chief executive officer of the authority , told Bloomberg.

“ We are in talks with China, the World Bank and African Development Bank on the project ,” he said. “ Djibouti is a small market but we are increasing traffic to the hinterland .”

Reportedly, Djibouti has also revealed its intention to construct another five ports in the coming years, including a $180 million facility in Tajourah for the export of minerals and potash from Ethiopia.
