The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District to conduct work in waters of the United States in conjunction with improvements to a state fishing access area in Addison, Vermont.
The applicant proposes to place fill material and perform dredging in Lake Champlain in conjunction with construction of improvements at the existing Chimney Point State Fishing Access area off of Vermont Route 17 in Addison.
Proposed work includes removal of the existing concrete ramp and constructing a new 28-foot-wide by 73-foot-long reinforced concrete ramp. The ramp will extend a maximum of 60 feet beyond Ordinary High Water (OHW). This portion of the work will involve the placement of about 207 cubic yards of stone fill and precast concrete below OHW and will impact about 3,385 square feet of lake bottom.
Work will include excavating 1,646 cubic yards of silt and gravel to a depth of – 4 feet OLW from an area of 23,250 square feet. The excavated material will be disposed of at an upland, non-wetland site. Also, work will include temporary placement of 3,000 cubic yards of excavated material and stone or granular borrow to facilitate the dredging and the construction of the ramp in the dry; and installing a 90-foot-long by 6-foot-wide seasonal dock adjacent to the south side of the ramp.
The basic purpose of this project is to improve an existing State Fishing Access area for recreational boaters and fishermen.
