The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has completed its initial review of more than 450 public comments on a proposal to dispose of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at the Clinton Landfill in DeWitt County, Illinois.
Based on this review, EPA has decided that further evaluation of site hydrogeology will be needed before making a final decision on Clinton Landfill, Inc.’s application to dispose of PCB-contaminated material at this site.
In March 2011, U.S. EPA opened a public comment period on the proposal. On June 9th, more than 200 people attended a public hearing hosted by U.S. EPA at Clinton High School. The comment period was extended to a total of five months in response to a request from local residents.
