ADPC announced yesterday that is has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Customs Administration (ADCA) to establish a solid framework of collaboration between both parties.
Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, Vice President of Ports Unit ADPC, and Mohamed Khadem al Hameli, Director of Abu Dhabi Customs Operations from ADCA signed the memorandum during the World Ports and Trade Summit, which is being held this week at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, in the presence of Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Chairman of ADPC.
The memorandum focuses on outlining clear steps under which ADCA will provide the support needed to develop customs facilities at Khalifa Port to ensure that Khalifa Port is ready for operations at the official opening of its first phase in Q4 this year.
Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi , VP of Ports Unit at ADPC, said of the announcement:
“Our collaboration with Abu Dhabi Customs Administration will facilitate the secure development and operation of Khalifa Port as it prepares to become a fully functioning port, and we are delighted to have signed this memorandum today. Khalifa Port is well on the way to completion, having now received the final three of six Ship-to-Shore cranes.We look forward to more milestones as we near the official opening of the port later this year. ”
Mohamed Khadem al Hameli from ADCA added:
“We are delighted to be working closely with the developer of one of the capital’s major development projects, which will boost trade relations and the industry as a whole in Abu Dhabi. Our role will revolve around maintaining seamless security, clearance and goods monitoring services at the port. We will collaboratively work with ADPC to ensure a safe and secure working environment for all those involved in the project.”
Khalifa Port will be operational by the end of this year. The port will be the first semi-automated port in the region to factor in rail freight and in its first phase will handle 2 million TEU containers and 12 million tons of bulk/break bulk cargo per year.
