Since it has not been dredged for years, the Apura River is left with 10 meters in width and 1 kilometer in length in Cengkareng Sub-District, West Jakarta.
In several areas, such as Cengkareng Timur, Durikosambi, Kapuk, and Kedauang Kaliangke, there are often floods due to the river being filled with mud and grass.
These are the conditions for some years now, and even though the communities have appealed to the officials to begin the necessary dredging work, no action was taken so far.
According to Berita Jakarta, Sub-District Vice Chief of Kalideres Didit Suyanto stated: “ Actually, we’ve repeatedly asked the Water Management Public Works Sub-Department to dredge and clean the river, yet no action until now .”
The people say that the situation is alarming, and they are hoping that the government will soon take initiative and improve the conditions of the river.
