Beach renourishment project is advancing on St. Augustine Beach as the dredger pumps sand out of the St. Augustine inlet onto the beach.
A dredger and its crew are working hard on pulling the sand out of the inlet and pumping it through pipes onto the beach making it an attraction.
Before the project commenced in February, this beach was rocky. About 2.1 million cubic yards of sand in total will be pumped onto 2.3 miles of shoreline from the Anastasia State Park south to the Bermuda Run development. Even now the beach is covered with sand and is expected to improve the local economy in a short period of time.
According to First Coast News, when the project finishes, the beach will be wider for about a two-mile stretch on the St. Augustine Beach.
The project is expected to be completed in June.
