The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District is holding two public meetings on May 1 and May 3 to discuss the district’s post flood rehabilitation efforts after flooding that occurred along the Missouri River in 2011 and to answer questions from the public.
Members of Congress have been invited to attend.
The first public meeting, scheduled for May 1, will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Atchison, Kan., at the Lewis and Clark Pavilion located at the intersection of Commercial Street and River Road.
The second public meeting, scheduled for May 3, will take place from 11-12 p.m. at Riverfront Park in Lexington, Mo., located on N. 10 Street.
“ Post flood rehabilitation is the Kansas City District’s 1 priority, and we remain committed to repairing the system ,” said Kansas City District Commander Col. Anthony Hofmann . “The Disaster Relief Appropriations Act approved by Congress on Dec. 23, 2011, provided the necessary funds for us to complete post flood rehabilitation.”
The district anticipates awarding 31 contracts totaling approximately $45 million to repair damage from the 2011 flood. To date, the district has restored protection to three levees along the Missouri River—North Kansas City Levee, Rushville-Sugar Lake Levee, and Wakenda Levee.
