Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Port Rashid, DP World officials stressed that leadership, vision, commitment and successful partnerships were at the forefront of the success of Dubai’s port and marine terminal industry over the decades.

At the Annual Gala Dinner hosted by DP World, UAE Region for its stakeholders, partners and clients from the supply chain industry, DP World officials also highlighted the industry’s role in aiding the economic development of the UAE, and reiterated their commitment to continue to serve the nation as has been the case since the establishment of Port Rashid in 1972.

The Grand Gala evening, which included musical performances and raffle draws, was attended by more than 600 invitees including top executives from shipping lines, traders, freight forwarding companies, and other supply chain operators, as well as senior officials from Economic Zones World and Dubai Customs.

Addressing the ceremony, Mohammed Sharaf, Group Chief Executive Officer, DP World, said: “The journey that began at Port Rashid in the early days of the UAE has seen Dubai emerge as a major maritime trading force. DP World has grown into the third largest global marine terminal operator on the strength of its enduring partnership with its customers and other stakeholders. Their growth has been our growth and we are confident that this exceptional relationship will continue to define our future.”

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region , said: “ DP world, UAE Region is fortunate that both its flagship Jebel Ali Port and Port Rashid have served as dependable growth engines of the UAE’s economy over the decades, and will continue this role into the future. Our focus on delivering operational efficiencies and superior service has been the key to win customer confidence and sustain it. Our record-breaking performance in 2011 was made possible by the support we received from our customers.”

DP World, UAE Region delivered volume growth of 12% handling 13.0 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container unit) in 2011.

Last year DP World announced two major expansions to add 5 million TEU capacity to Jebel Ali Port. It also unveiled plans to expand Dubai Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid to accommodate and service more than five cruise ships at one time, and upgrade Al Hamriya Port to bring it into the 21st century and provide value-added services to its customers.
