According to the Borneo Post Online, a Kuala Lumpur High Court last Friday sets aside an ex-parte injunction granted to Integrated Marine Works Sdn Bhd (IMW) to restrain Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) from receiving, evaluating or awarding any tender for the construction of the new Samalaju Port in Bintulu.
IMW entered into a concession agreement with the Government of Malaysia in December 2004 to undertake the dredging of all ports and harbours in Malaysia under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
The agreement is for a period of 15 years, ending 2019.
BPHB has been appointed by the state government to develop, manage and operate the new Samalaju Port, which has been declared a State Port under the Port Authorities Ordinance 1961.
Tenders have been called by BPHB for the construction of the interim phase of the Samalaju Port which involved the building of two wharves, dredging, breakwater protection and land reclamation works.
The port is required to serve the needs of heavy industries located in Samalaju Heavy Industrial Park and is deemed an important component of the development of SCORE.
