On May 22, 2012 South Coast golfers have a unique opportunity to play a round of golf and clean up New Bedford Harbor at the same time.

That is because the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the Bay Club at Mattapoisett are partnering to host a Golf Tournament specifically designed to fund nitrogen pollution cleanup in New Bedford Harbor.

For golfers, it’s a rare opportunity to enjoy the private club’s parkland-style 7,100 yard championship course, designed by PGA Tour professional Brad Faxon in conjunction with golf course architect Brad Booth. The tournament uses a “best ball of the foursome” format, so golfers of all abilities can participate.

For the harbor, all proceeds will go into a dedicated fund to support projects that clean up nitrogen pollution in New Bedford Harbor.

“ This event is unique because the proceeds go directly to new technologies and projects that will improve water quality in New Bedford Harbor ,” says Bay Coalition Vice-President of Operations Maureen Coleman . “ It’s a simple equation: Your round of golf on this fantastic course means cleaner water in New Bedford Harbor .”
