José Muniz Rebouças, the chairman of state port authority Codeba, said that the Aratu port in northeastern Brazil’s Bahia state is planning at least 685mn reais’ (US$357mn) worth of investments in port expansion works this year.
Two groups have presented project studies for the lease, which Codeba is currently analyzing, Rebouças said, adding: “ We aim to forward them to national waterways regulator Antaq for review by month-end .”
Meanwhile, the authority plans to spend 100mn reais to expand the port’s liquid bulk terminal, with its lease holder providing another 400mn-500mn reais. Work will entail building two berths and increasing liquid storage capacity.
