As the Sun Herald reports, I-beams jutting from the sand east of the Pass Christian Harbor are part of the ongoing construction of the city’s new harbor.
Seawalls are being built to define the shape of the 243-slip harbor, where 350,000 cubic yards of sand are being dredged from the site.
Dredging is expected to be completed very soon, and the seawall work should be done in August.
A Mississippi Development Authority grant will pay for $25 million of the project, along with $3 million from a Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant and $5 million from BP to pay for the dredging.
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock of Chicago is doing the dredge work, and Silverton Construction of Jackson is putting in the pilings for the sea wall.
