The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will host a public meeting on the Jacksonville Harbor Navigation Deepening Study.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Port Authority Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Dr. Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of the meeting is to provide interested stakeholders with an early opportunity to discuss ecological and water quality models that are being developed for this study.
These models are considered a critical component of this effort, and will be used to help assess potential effects that deepening the harbor’s navigation channel may have on the St. Johns River ecosystem.
The Jacksonville District is conducting a study to increase the depth of the existing federal channel along the St. Johns River from its current project depth of 40-feet to a maximum depth of 50-feet. The study is focused on the portion of the harbor up to river mile 14. The study will evaluate navigation concerns and provide recommendations for investigating navigation improvements.
