The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is pumping 350,000 cubic yards of sand onto the beach beginning at the north end of town as part of a federal beach replenishment project, Shore News Today reports.
Work began Wednesday, May 9 and is expected to take 20 days, according to city engineer Matt Doran.
A hopper dredge just off the coast is pumping sand onto the beach as the project continues south from Atlantic City through Ventnor. Following the beach replenishment, Doran said the Army Corps of Engineers will return to install level walkovers from the boardwalk to the beach.
Work has been going on through the day and night, and Doran said safety inspectors from the Army Corps of Engineers will be on site during the process.
Ventnor is paying $525,000 toward the $18 million beach replenishment project that will encompass the two shore towns.
