According to Clare County Drain Commissioner Carl Parks, a $970,000 six-year dredging and improvement project at Surrey Lake is now complete.
Parks said the project began in 2006 with engineering, surveying and securing a ten-year bond. The actual dredging didn’t begin until 2009, reports clarecountyreview.com.
„ The property owners in the special assessment district at Surrey Lake paid for the dredging project, ” he said.
„ The project was originally scheduled to be complete in one year, “ Parks said, “ But due to breakdowns caused by obstacles in the lake including wood, ice shanties, chains, large rocks, wire and fishing line, the actual dredging lasted three years.“
