Tuesday, Collier County commissioners voted to add more than 100,000 cubic yards of sand to the South Marco Island beach and repair 5 erosion control structures.
According to winknews.com, the county estimates more than 50,000 cubic yards of sand washed away in 2008 during Tropical Storm Fay.
Officials say the renourishment project will cost $3 million, but a third of that money will come from FEMA.
Commissioners also discussed using leftover funds from the south beach project to ease erosion problems at Marco’s Hideaway Beach.
