The dredging work is underway to remove up to 30,000 tonnes of sand and silt from Burry Port Harbour, according to thisissouthwales.co.uk.
This dredging programme is being carried out for the third year in a row to keep the marina open.
The level of silts building up in the marina each year is said to be dependent on the severity of winter storms and direction of winds blowing sand laden waves into the harbour.
Harbour master Rory Dickinson said: “ It is a constant battle against the forces of nature to keep channels open to the sea .”
Contractors are expected to be on site until the end of the month.
