The thousands of tonnes of silt are being removed from the Central Dry Dock in Hull in the northeast of the UK by a specialist dredging team, reports This is Hull & East Riding.
Engineers are working in a 24-hour operation to clear silt from the dock, which stands at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber.
Stephen Hudson, the group’s development director , said: “ We have been in discussions with The Deep and Hull City Council on the development of a sister attraction for some time.
“The clearance work involves pumping water into the dock, agitating the silt and pumping the liquefied material back into the River Hull.”
“The lock gates will then be sealed and the dock walls cleaned in readiness for survey work to commence.”
The clean-up operation is being carried out by two vessels from the Killingholme company Humber Work Boats.
