Philippines: Iloilo River Dredging Supports Growing Industries, Official Says

Winfred G. Elizalde, the Philippine Ports Authority Manager said: „ The development of the Iloilo river wharf will support the growing shipping, trucking, and all other industries that co-exist with shipping. “

From dredging to driving of piles and steel sheets in order to contain the area from erosion, construction of passengers’ terminal forms part of the development of the 1.3 hectares in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz, La Paz district, according to the Philippine Information Agency.

“ The passengers terminal when completed is capable of accommodating as much as a maximum of 400 to a maximum of 700 passengers at any given time ,” Elizalde said.

The PPA 6 manager said that the development of Iloilo wharf likewise include the facilities that would accommodate roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels.

“ We expect a great impact of these projects to our economy because the vessels will be able to dock with ease and convenience, and the cargo owners likewise will have a bigger place where they could store their cargoes ,” Elizalde said.

He also said that the government’s project to develop the Iloilo river wharf will facilitate easy transport and handling of good, items, and native products and most of all it will help facilitate public convenience.
