The Lake County Water Authority is more than half-way done with its 1.5 million cubic yard Lake Beauclair Dredging Project, according to dailycommercial.com.
The $9.1 million dredging effort will be shut down on June 15 and will restart on Sept. 1. The stoppage is required to prevent any fish losses during the warmest months.
This is the second large-scale lake dredging for the Lake County Water Authority, which dredged Lake Griffin in 2008.
The latest project is intended to remove the organic nutrient-laden sediment from the western end of Lake Beauclair, water authority Water Resources Program Manager Ron Hart said. The 255-acre delta has been accumulating in the lake as a result of discharges from the Apopka/Beauclair Canal.
