Crews completed most of the work of getting vessels and equipment into Whitefish Lake and now the removing contaminated sediments will begin, according to kaj18.com.
BNSF and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are teaming up to remove 450 cubic yards of contaminated sediments.
The soil will be hoisted into large barges and pushed by tug boats across the lake. The barges will then be picked up by a crane, placed onto a railtruck and carried to the BNSF rail yard.
This cleanup project is expected to be complete by July 4th.
