Malaysia’s Johor Port has embarked on a five-year business and expansion plan to redevelop and restructure the port infrastructure, and upgrade equipment and facilities.

“ Industries in Pasir Gudang are growing to the extent that they have now expanded to the Tanjung Langsat Industrial area. Therefore Johor Port needs to gear itself to cater for the growth and expansion of these industries so as to ensure that the port remains a vibrant gateway for the southern region of Malaysia ,” said Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, chairman of Johor Port.

Johor Port has played a prominent role in catalyzing the development and success of the Pasir Gudang industrial estate and its surrounding areas.

“ Under our five-year expansion plan, the port will be modernised in phases ,” Sidik said. “ This year alone, we will be spending something to the tune of MYR100m ($31.7m) .”

The expansion plan will include replacing some of the old and aging cranes and port equipment, repairing some of the wharfs structures, building four new berths dedicated for the handling of liquid cargo, and dredge the port waterfront.

The multi-purpose Johor Port will also continue to play a key role in facilitating the needs of the oil and gas sector.

“ Part of the plan moving forward is to provide dedicated facilities at the port for offshore activities and to develop a Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) center for offshore activities ,” Sidik said.
