Tropical storm Debby is hitting just a few months after the multi-million dollar beach renourishment project was finished on Fort Myers Beach, says fox4now.com.
The $4 million project stretched a mile long, from Bowditch Point to just past the Fort Myers Beach Pier.
The renourishment project widened the beach, adding about 315,000 cubic yards of sand, or 300 feet to each section of beach.
The renourishment should last an estimated 10 years, but the storm is hitting Southwest Florida just 6 months after Lee County finished its beach renourishment project.
“ All the money and time we took to rebuild the beach and mother nature comes and takes it away in 3 days ,” said one beachgoer.
